Bio

THÉA (Thea Barromes, born July 25, 2001), is a French singer, electronic music producer, and songwriter. Her style is linked to emocore tones and more broadly to hyperpop. She first gained attention in 2019 by publishing songs and covers on her YouTube channel. Discovered at the iNOUïS of Printemps de Bourges in 2023, THÉA began touring and performing at many festivals and concert venues in France, Belgium, Switzerland, and Germany. THÉA was born in 2001 and grew up in the Paris suburbs in a politically engaged left-wing family. Her father took her to concerts where she discovered Zebda, while her older brother introduced her to rock and punk rock groups such as Sum 41, Good Charlotte, and The Offspring. She started playing drums at six and became interested in music software at eleven. After one year in a Catholic high school, she joined the self-managed high school of Paris, where she discovered political activism. She played in a band during her studies and performed covers at concerts. In 2016, THÉA began publishing her first songs and covers, notably on YouTube. After the Covid-19 lockdown, her first live performances were politically charged, with songs built on protest slogans at concerts in Montreuil, including at the squat Le Marbré, where she performed in support of movements against detention centers. In 2022 and 2023, she took part in events organized by Afterlife Collective, founded by LouiseBSX and Thx4Crying, which brought together hyperpop and queer artists. Her debut album *Memento* was released in 2023 on the label Pont Futur, followed by a concert at Le Hasard Ludique in Paris. She soon performed at La Boule Noire and was selected for the final list of the iNOUïS of Printemps de Bourges in 2023. That same year she released a new EP, *Paname Œstros Poubelle*, presented at a concert at FGO-Barbara in December. In 2024, THÉA played sold-out shows at La Boule Noire and La Maroquinerie. She joined Shaka Ponk on part of their *The Final Fucked Up Tour*, performed with Kyo, and appeared at major festivals such as Solidays and JVAL Openair. That year she also performed abroad for the first time, with shows in Belgium and Switzerland, and at the c/o pop festival in Cologne in 2025. In September 2024, she signed with Glory Box Music and released her latest EP *Comète* in February 2025. In 2025 and 2026, she is scheduled to play two major concerts at La Cigale and the Olympia in Paris. THÉA’s music is often described as “ultra-pop” and generally associated with hyperpop. In 2022 she composed *Écho* using a sample from an artwork by Sophie Xeon as a tribute to the late pioneer of the genre. Her songs mix diverse influences, from pop and punk to 2000s sounds, blending hyperpop’s modernity with the timeless edge of 2005 pop-rock. Some critics describe her music as a meeting point between nu metal’s revival and the hyperpop of Sophie or Charli XCX. Her lyrics explore themes of anger, altered realities, psychotropics, and mental struggles. She also writes about queer identities and the challenges faced by the community, as well as personal memories of her teenage years in Paris and its nightlife. Her emocore influence is visible in her politically charged and generationally resonant texts. THÉA usually writes and composes her songs alone, starting from a melody or lyrics, then refines them with the help of producers during post-production and mixing. Her live performances, inspired by cabaret aesthetics, have been described as electrifying and visceral. Since 2024 she has been joined on stage by ADlib on guitar and Lyldrum on drums, adding a rock dimension to her music. Read more on Last.fm.
